An introduction to psychodrama, an action technique for group and individual work with clients and for the clinician’s own personal and professional growth. This is a hands-on training, which will introduce newcomers and re-ignite current practitioners.

Psychodrama was created by J.L. Moreno, an Austrian who came to the US in 1925 and perfected his work in New York. It is widely used by many of the best treatment facilities in the country and has an international following.

The phases and elements of Psychodrama will be described and experienced. Psychodramatic terms and techniques will be defined and practical examples given for real-life scenarios. Come and experience one of the oldest and most respected of the expressive therapies.

An Open Letter to Therapists:

One of the main goals of Healing Works is to nurture area therapists,
particularly those who work in agencies. As a young therapist I worked in
or with many agencies. We were all struggling to develop our skills and
had the toughest clients, the biggest caseloads. The pressure to deliver
high volume was tremendous but did not feed my soul. I was drawn to
anything and anyone that furthered my growth and development. I needed
to hear about counter-transference over and over again. I needed new
ideas and new techniques to stay fresh and interested. I needed support.
I was lucky to have many mentors in this field that did and continue to inspire
me. I had a few safe places to go where therapists as a breed were
understood and appreciated. I seek to provide another such place at
Healing Works. Stop by; come get a new book at a discount and a new
idea to keep you going. Share what’s happening on your caseload at
monthly peer supervision. Come and take a break from the front lines
for a while. You deserve it! The work you do is amazing! For me—it is the only work on the planet.
